Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Senator Toni Harp, the Amistad Committee, Inc., the Connecticut Freedom Trail Committee, and the Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism gathered at the state capitol February 17th to launch the new and improved Web site for the Connecticut Freedom Trail. The Connecticut Freedom Trail includes over 130 sites that tell the story of the struggle for freedom and dignity of Connecticut's African American citizens. The new Web site, , provides an easy to use interactive map, historic images, photographs of the sites to visit, a kids-only section, and resources for teachers and students of all ages.

I have a story that was handed down by my father of another underground railroad site in barkhamsted. This is currently on state land. A root cellar that was hidden from view along the then main road to barkhamsted and the lighthouse. During my lifetime a stateworker took the two huge stone slabs that was the roof of this place. Other then that no more damage has been done to the site. This was the next farm over from my family’s. My great grandfather was a boy of 12 when the civil war started. So the telling hadn’t changed much and we knew the layout of the farm. Would anyone like to know about this place?
We’ll pass this information along to the Connecticut Freedom Trail folks. Thanks for sharing.
